Update from Karen Bettin, M.S., R.D., Nutrition Consultant, WIC Program, Portland, OR: The link below is to our recently updated nutrition care guidelines for preterm infants which has become a useful tool for nutrition and health providers both in and outside of Oregon.
- Nutrition Practice Care Guidelines for Preterm Infants in the Community, 2013 revision The guidelines are designed to assist WIC and community-based health professionals in caring for the high-risk preterm infant to ensure optimal post-discharge growth and development. This is the 3rd and most extensive revision since the first publication of the guidelines in 2001. This revision was a two year process with collaboration with WIC RDs, Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) RDs and Oregon Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (OPNPG). http://public.health.oregon.gov/HealthyPeopleFamilies/wic/Documents/preterm.pdf

- April, 2013 update from Karen Bettin, M.S., R.D., Nutrition Consultant, WIC Program, Portland, OR: At the 2012 WR NLN meeting, I reported that Oregon had received 2011 Breastfeeding Bonus funds which were used to award grants for 22 projects spanning 25 of our 36 counties. Below is a link to a document that summarizes all of the accomplishments.
- 2012 WIC Breastfeeding Special Project GrantsThis is a summary of the creative and innovative projects that local agency WIC and Healthy Communities staff developed and implemented with the 2011 Breastfeeding Bonus funds Oregon received.
