WHO: Wednesday’s Meeting was in conjunction with the Western Region WIC Nutrition Coordinators
WHY: Overall meeting purpose was to identify opportunities for collaboration to improve MCH nutrition at the federal, state and local levels in order to build synergy across programs for MCH nutrition in the western states
Goals and Objectives for Wednesday, March 3
Joint meeting with the NLN, Western WIC Nutrition Coordinators, MCH Faculty and trainees from UCLA, OHSU, UNM, CSU and UW. Objectives were:
1. Identify the major sources of funding and support for high-priority MCH nutrition objectives (regarding: child and maternal obesity, breastfeeding, food security, family access to healthy foods, CSHCN, child care, nutritional health in pregnancy, infancy and early childhood, and cutting-edge nutrition counseling methods);
2. Describe existing and planned federal and regional collaborative initiatives around these issues;
3. Identify opportunities for synergy within and among states;
4. Explore the use of nutrition education online for training both staff and clients; and,
5. Discuss HP 2020 Objectives related to MCH populations.
